The only two bridge connections between the western and eastern regions of Virginia and Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay are the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is an impressive 20-mile long four-lane engineering feat at the lowest end of the Chesapeake Bay that connects Virginia's Eastern Shore at the northern part of Virginia Beach (near Norfolk) to the southern tip of the Eastern Shore peninsula. The bridge-tunnel gives immediate access to Virginia's Cape Charles and the fabulous Kiptopeke State Park and chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge as well as Maryland's Crisfield, Assateague Island, and Ocean City - "must see" destinations for all water lovers who enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and a slower pace of life as well as access to the more densely populated and rowdy (especially during summer) beachfront city of Ocean City, MD and nearby Delaware communities of Fenwick Island, Bethany Beach, Dewey Beach, Rohoboth Beach, and Lewes).

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge connects western Maryland to eastern Maryland at Annapolis and Keny Island and gives immediate access to such popular destinations as Easton, St. Michael, Tilghman Island, Rock Hall, and Chestertown.
